March 2009
Dear Range Pond Enthusiasts,
It looks like the cold weather has started to retreat and spring is here! As the two feet of ice slowly recedes from our lakes, there is no better time to begin thinking of our lakes and ways to make our lakes group more productive this year. With the faltering economy, our volunteers’ time already stretched to the limit and cuts to outside funding for agency assistance for lakefront property and erosion issues, we face an enormous challenge to keep our lakes monitored and healthy. In light of this, I am pleased to report that we have a full slate of talented officers on board this year; each member bringing fresh insight, ideas and experiences with them. Our first meeting in November, 2008, generated a great deal of excitement. Most importantly, each one of our members has a deep concern for the quality of our lakes.
As we start to re-define our goals for the future of our organization, the Board has decided to work on the following items this year:
Continue to work to increase our membership,
Improve communications with the public by creating more newsletters,
Utilize our local town access channel,
Utilize and promote the outstanding website provided to us by Wayne Andrews,
Create a link to our website from the town’s website,
Continue lake monitoring by Lake &Watershed Resource Management Associates,
Investigate renewing our involvement with boat inspections at the boat launch.
The continued health of our lakes depend on the way we all take care of and use them, whether you live on the lake or not. This begins with YOU! By becoming a member and getting involved in our Lakes Association you can learn how you can be a better steward of these beautiful lakes that we live around, play on and love. We will not only benefit by increased property values and recreational fun, but the animals and birds that live and nest here will thrive as well.
Do you have ideas, questions, comments? Feel free to attend any of our meetings or contact us. Contact information is available on our website: www.pivot.net/~wayneandrews/RPEA.htm”
